WE CREATE BRAKE PADS

CL Brakes manufacture high performance sintered metal brake pads. Our experience and expertise is used to develop materials for race cars, motorcycles and mountain bikes. CL Brakes are still produced at the original Carbone Lorraine manufacturing site in Gennevilliers (Paris), which is constantly evolving with the latest technology.

We at CL Brakes are constantly developing our products using the latest high tech materials on at a World Level. We pride ourselves on maintaining responsible relationships from our employees right through to our network of distributors in over 40 countries.

SINTERING METAL PROCESS

Two types of friction materials are used to manufacture brake pads: sintered or organic, Only sintered materials can provide high inital bite, fade free operation at extreme temperatures, instant cold bite, and braking in water, mud or sand. CL Brakes do not require any inconvenient bedding in process, so maximising valuable track time.

Sintered metal brake pads are composed of various metal powders. The friction compound consists of at least 10 elements (bronze, copper, iron, ceramics, graphite, etc...). and each element plays an integral part in the behaviour of the brake pad (feel, noise and performance). These powders are mixed together, and pressed into a mold at 30000psi to create the puck shape. The brake pad puck is then placed onto the correct backing plate and inserted into a furnace at more than 900°C to begin the sintering process.

The various components in the puck are moulded together and brazed onto the backing plate. Once finished, the pad is machined to its final thickness, quality checked and packaged for delivery.
